Falmouth Harbour at a glance

Falmouth Harbour lies right next to English Harbour in the south of Antigua. It is a working yachting harbor with marinas, a yacht club and berths for large yachts. It is not Falmouth in Cornwall. The National Parks Authority looks after the historic and natural landscapes around both harbors, but the marinas and the yacht club are separate businesses and organizations.

The best way to see both bays at once is from Shirley Heights, which looks over English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour together. Along the water itself you find the marinas, the yacht club and a mix of restaurants and bars within walking distance of some accommodation.

Marinas and the yacht club

The marinas are active businesses, not museum grounds. A marina is a place where yachts berth and crews work, so there is no general right to walk onto docks or tour a superyacht. Ask at the marina office if you want access.

Three names come up most often. They are different organizations and you should keep them apart.

Restaurants and bars

What is known about the waterfront scene.

Within walking distance

A provider of self-catering suites on the bay says that restaurants and bars are within walking distance of its property, with a view over Falmouth Harbour. That points to a food and drink scene around the bay. Ask your accommodation which places are open on the night you arrive.

Summer and winter

The Antigua Yacht Club sailing programme for 2025 and 2026, revised on 2 October 2025, lists local sailing events in May and June as well. The harbor does not shut down for the summer. That still does not mean every restaurant is open or that superyachts are always in port at that time, so check before a special trip.

The big dates

Antigua Sailing Week 2027 runs from 21 to 25 April 2027, according to the organizer. The Classic Yacht Regatta runs from 14 to 19 April 2027 at Nelson's Dockyard. The Sailing Week format changed to point-to-point in 2026, so older spectator advice may not apply. See the Sailing Week page.

Getting to Falmouth Harbour

An online bus guide dated 4 June 2026 describes bus 17 from the West Bus Station in St. John's via All Saints, Liberta and Falmouth to English Harbour, taking about 45 to 60 minutes. No fixed timetable is published, and minibuses leave when they fill up. Check the fare with the driver. The getting there page covers the airport, taxis and car hire.

If you rent a car, traffic keeps left, and visitors need a temporary driving permit from the police or the car hire company. Use licensed taxis only, as the British Foreign Office advises. Details on safety are in the safety guide.

A simple day plan: spend the morning at Nelson's Dockyard, walk or ride around to the Falmouth Harbour waterfront for lunch, and go up to Shirley Heights in the late afternoon. Ask locally how long each leg takes, as times depend on the route and the traffic.

For a stay on the Falmouth side, one provider offers self-catering suites for short stays, with a kitchen and a view over the harbor. Staying inside the Dockyard is a different option, described on the where to stay page.
